College Promise and Partners Receive Grant to Accelerate College Students’ Civic and Democracy Learning Nationally

College Promise, one of five lead partners of The Civic Learning and Democracy Engagement (CLDE) Coalition, has received a significant grant from The Endeavor Foundation for the Coalition to make college students’ civic learning and democracy engagement inclusive, equitable, high-quality, and expected. We are proud to join with the American Association of Colleges and Universities (AAC&U), Complete College America, the State Higher Education Executive Officers (SHEEO), and Campus Compact to further this work with our many programs and partners across the country. Click here to read the briefing paper on the Coalition’s purposes, partnerships, and vision for students’ democracy learning.

Over the next two years, the CLDE Coalition will sponsor a series of national “Planning and Action Forums” for policy leaders and educators to advance strategies that prioritize students’ democracy learning and its multiple impacts to spur completion, equity, and students’ acquisition of practical, career-related skills. The forums also will showcase new evidence about students’ gains from civic learning and community-based projects.

“As College Promise programs grow across the U.S., we are excited to work with our education, business, nonprofit, and philanthropic partners to deepen students’ civic knowledge and their capacities to identify and contribute to solutions that address the most pressing problems of our democracy in their classrooms, in their local communities, and across their states,” said Martha Kanter, CEO of College Promise.

The CLDE Coalition is working in partnership with leaders in dozens of national and state-based organizations, including state systems, the accrediting commissions, and organizations that have been pace-setters in building support across the United States for making civic inquiry and problem-solving part of the college curriculum.
